Gail Laser
Wife, mother, grandma, psychotherapist, local resident, and local community advocate, Gail moved to Hadley Green Barnet in 1999. With a background in retail fashion and a passion for everything local, Gail was rather proud of her high street until it began to show signs of decline.
Gail has worked tirelessly for years as a volunteer campaigner to help improve the high street investing an enormous amount of time and energy and has made a real difference to the community. Pre 2012 Gail Chaired the Barnet Traders Group, galvanising a few of them to join forces with her to find ways of regenerating our High Street. In 2012, as Gail was directed by a council officer to the possibility of putting together a bid for The Mayors Fund that could raise up to half a million pounds for the local community. The bid had to be channelled through the local council who would act as conduit and banker. With a group of talented stakeholders and business, a lengthy bid was put created and surprisingly Team Chipping Barnet won. Winning the bid encourage Gail to continue to fight for the survival of her high street, and as the Vice Chair of local stakeholder groups, The Barnet Society and Chipping Barnet Town, Team Gail, with much local support, has been encouraged to find a rather loud voice in seeking ways and means of reversing the tide of degeneration. With a lot of help from members of the community, Barnet and Southgate College, her husband and calling in some cheeky favours, she opened three pop up shops Working with other members of the community, she opened three pop-up shops, one of which is now an established up-and-coming business an more recently another has opened as a springboard from this.. Gail also set up a Love Barnet page on social media, which now has several thousand followers and is instrumental in engaging businesses and the local community. Other successes include setting up a local branch of Make it Your Business as well as becoming the Chief Champion for all the women around the country who are running their own branch of Make It Your Business (MIYB).
